Gurban Gurbanov Parted with National Team of Azerbaijan

Baku / 08.12.18 / Turan: The Federation of Football Associations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) early terminated the contract with the national team's head coach Gurban Gurbanov.

The AFFA Executive Committee considered that the decision to appoint Gurbanov as the national team coach at the same time as he continued his work at Karabakh FC was wrong.

This was reported by Gurbanov himself.

He also offered to remove him from the AFFA Executive Committee, since he wants to focus only on his work in Karabakh.

The question of the new head coach of the national team of Azerbaijan remains open. The Board decided to prepare a list of candidates and select a new coach from among them.

The issue of the appointment of a new head coach will be resolved before the end of this year, or at the beginning of the next, since in spring the team will begin playing in the Euro 2020 qualifying tournament.

It was also decided to change the head coaches of the national teams of all age groups, except U-19, which made its way into the next stage of the European championship.

Gurbanov was appointed head coach of the Azerbaijani national team a year ago for a period of 6 years. Under his leadership, the Azerbaijani team did not successfully perform in the weakest Division D of the League of Nations, taking second place in their group and losing the leadership to Kosovo.

The parallel work of Gurbanov in the national team and the club had a negative impact on the performance of Karabakh in the group stage of the Europa League, where the team won only one of the five games, losing in the rest, and twice with a big score. -06D--
