Headquarters "Kur" Appealed to the ICRC
The headquarters of civil society "Kur" sent a letter to the head of the Azerbaijani office of the Committee of the International Red Cross Sherin Pollini to request an independent medical examination of the arrested human rights activist Ilham Amiraslanov.
"We ask you within your authorities to meet with the detainee in the detention center of Baku and to take all necessary steps for his comprehensive and objective medical examination," the statement says.
The letter notes that Amiraslanov is contained in isolation and cannot meet his family and the doctor from outside the penitentiary is not allowed for his treatment.
The letter states that after the illegal arrest on April 8 Amiraslanov underwent inhumane treatment and torture by the police and received injuries of the chest and internal organs, and his eardrum was broken. But he was not provided medical care, and doctors say his state of health is "normal." Only after repeated complaints of human rights defenders, the doctors recognized the perforation (rupture) of the eardrum. -0 -

Amid the bustling scenes of this year’s COP29 climate conference, a protest against whaling and deep-sea mining, organized by a group calling itself the FINS Initiative, drew significant attention from delegates and observers. However, questions have arisen about the legitimacy of the group, as an internet search yields little evidence of its existence beyond scattered mentions.

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
