Human Rights Activists Condemn Police Violence against Believers
The Monitoring Center for Political Prisoners condemned the brutal dispersal of the protest of believers in front of the Sabunchu police in connection with the detention of Akhund of the mosque Hazrat Abbas, Elchin Gasimov.
In a statement, the Center criticized the use of special force against the peaceful protest of believers and their arrests.
They also condemned the closed trial on Gasimov without his lawyer and his arrest for 30 days.
The Center asked the head of the Interior Ministry, the Prosecutor General, the Ombudsman and human rights activists of the Joint Working Group to clarify on what basis the police beat the believers and why the courts do not respect the laws of the country.
The Monitoring Center for Political Prisoners was established in 2014 by a group of former "prisoners of conscience" headed by Elshan Hasanov. -06D--
