Jewelry Dating Back to First Millennium BC Found
Baku / 19.04.18 / Turan: Azerbaijani scientists discovered gold and silver ornaments dating back to the first millennium BC in the Goranboy, Shemkir, Tovuz and Agstafa regions.
According to the National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), the study in these areas is conducted by a group led by the deputy director for scientific work of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences.
The investigations were carried out to check the status of a number of monuments of the late Bronze and Early Iron Age, and to determine the state of these archaeological monuments on the basis of ground materials. The group recorded the destruction of a number of monuments as a result of natural and artificial interference.
Scientists discovered ancient burials with gold and bronze earrings, rings, pearls of pear-shaped and tubular form, as well as pendant decoration items. Along with the found ornaments, fragments of ceramic dishes were found, the ornament of which indicates that these objects belong to the early Iron Age - to the first half of the first millennium BC.
The ANAS notes that these finds confirm that 2,700-3,000 years ago gold production was highly developed in Azerbaijan. -0-
