Journalist Elchin Hasanov is not allowed to leave the country
Deputy Editor of Sumgayit newspaper "Yukselish Namine” Elchin Hasanov was not allowed to leave the country at the border with Georgia. Hasanov together with the editor of the newspaper, Elchin Mammadov, was going to Tbilisi for further trip to Strasbourg.
Mammadov was allowed, but Hasanov was detained. The border guards said that the ban was imposed on April 8 by the General Directorate to Combat Organized Crime of the Ministry of Interior of Azerbaijan.
Hasanov said that on 6 April he was summoned to the agency, and said that a lawsuit was filed against him on charges of hooliganism on the complaint of Jafarov, the head of the agency "Asiya", claiming that Hasanli beat him. It is noteworthy that Jafarov is in custody.
The border guards took Hasanov to police of Gazakh region, where he was forced to sign, that on 21 April 21 should go to General Directorate to Combat Organized Crime of the Ministry of Interior of Azerbaijan.
Hasanov is a member of the Supreme Majlis of PPFA. The newspaper "Yükselish Namine" has been published since 2005, but in mid-2014, the issue was stopped due to freezing of grants from foreign donors. Now there is only Internet version of the newspaper. —06B-
