Journalists Suing Bar Association
Baku / 13.03.18 / Turan: The journalists Khadija Ismayilova and Aynur Gambarova (Elgunesh) sued the Bar because of the suspension of the powers of the lawyer Yalchin Imanov.
"I have an agreement with Yalchin Imanov. I was summoned several times to the Investigatory Directorate for Grave Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office on the criminal case, and the investigation is continuing. The last interrogation was conducted with the participation of the lawyer Yalchin Imanov, but now his advocacy activity is suspended," said Elgunesh.
Attraction of a new lawyer requires additional expenses, but the main thing is the issue of trust to the lawyer.
"Although there are more than 800 lawyers in the Bar Association who are ready to defend critics, those who know the practice of the European Court of Human Rights are few," Elgunesh noted.
The statement of claim in the coming days will be submitted to the Baku Administrative Economic Court No. 1, she said. Note that Imanov also defended the rights of Khadija Ismayilova.
On November 20, 2017, the Presidium of the Bar Association terminated Yalchin Imanov's powers and appealed to the court to remove him from the Bar. The reason was the complaint of the Penitentiary Service, which accused the lawyer of publicizing a fact of torture in the Gobustan prison.
The decision to terminate Imanov's powers was condemned by the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Bar Association. -06B-
