Khadija Ismail invited, but not allowed

Today, the journalist Khadija Ismail was not allowed to the founding session of the Parliament to restore the activity of the Working Group on Political Prisoners.

As the journalist told Turan, she was invited to the meeting, but was not let into the building.

"I was told that I was not on the guest list. I called Vugar Aliyev in the President's Office, and he said he was surprised and said that it was impossible. Then he called back and said that some of the participants were against my participation," she said.

"I did not think they would so quickly show their unwillingness to engage in dialogue," said the journalist.

She also reported that work on the alternative list of political prisoners continues. In late October, more detailed information about this list will be provided.

The Working Group on Political Prisoners resumes its work at the suggestion of the CoE Secretary General Jagland. This group was established in 2003 and operated until 2008. It included representatives of government and civil society. -16B04-
