Khadija Ismayilova Released from Paying Fine of AZN 2,500 on Amnesty
The journalist Khadija Ismayilova got under amnesty in the case of the lawsuit against her from the former opposition member Elman Hasanov. The journalist was released from payment of a fine in the amount of AZN 2,500 (1,640 US dollars).
Recall that Elman Hasanov filed the lawsuit "on the recommendation" of law enforcement (as he admitted), which claimed that he had been slandered by Ismayilova. This resulted from the publication of the document that he was an agent of the Ministry of National Security. However, the document published by the journalist does not include the name Hasanov. This document appeared in social networks two years ago and was published by the former officer of the National Security Ministry and now a political emigrant Ramin Naghiyev. However, on February 23, 2015 the Binaghadi district court sentenced the journalist to a fine. By this time Ismayilova was already in custody on other charges, on the basis of which she subsequently was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison. However, on May 25, the Supreme Court commuted her sentence and changed the real imprisonment to a probation term.
On June 21 the Binagadi department of execution of judgments handed Ismayilova the document on her amnesty. She wrote this on Facebook.
Still, the journalist intends to seek justification and her cassation appeal will be considered in the Supreme Court on June 28.
At the same time, because of the conditional sentence served by the journalist in another case she is limited in the rights and, in particular, she cannot make foreign visits. -06D—
