In the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, at the trial of the former MP Guler Ahmedova, the lawyer Afsar Talybov started his final speech on November 25.
Recall that Ahmedova is accused of fraud and embezzlement on a large scale. The reason for the arrest was the video issued by the former Rector of International University Elshad Abdullayev in September 2012. On these shots taken with a hidden camera you can see how Ahmedova and her friend Sevinj Babayeva extort $ 1 million from Abdullayev for his election as MP. After the emergence of the video, Babayeva fled to Turkey, where she died at the end of 2012.
According to the lawyer, the video is mounted and no transfer of money is shown. Therefore, Ahmedova was arrested on trumped-up charges, the lawyer said.
He also asked for the removal of the charges under Article 307.2 (concealment of crime). According to this article, Ahmedova is charged with concealment of Sevinj Babayeva from the investigation in Turkey in cahoots with the citizen of this country Seljuk Aglayan. However, the Turkish court acquitted Aglayan and the persecution of Ahmedova on this issue is unfounded.

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died.
