Lawyer Javadov: Intigam Aliyev Needs Serious Examination and Treatment
The lawyer Javad Javadov visited the human rights defender Intigam Aliyev in the Baku detention center on May 22. In an interview with Turan the lawyer said that Aliyev is in serious need of medical examination and treatment.
"A week ago I was not able to meet with Intigam Aliyev, due to severe pain in his back. Today, Intigam Aliyev came to the meeting. But he moved with great difficulty," said Javadov.
Aliyev said that because of the severe pain for a long time, in fact, he could not move. In the prison he did not have a serious medical care. The jail administration only gave Aliyev some anesthetizing drugs that did not eliminate the disease, but only temporarily relieved the pain.
"Intigam Aliyev is in serious need of care and treatment. Pains in the back even were before his arrest, but then he received physiotherapy. In prison there are no conditions for that. Intigam Aliyev was not even made an X-ray examination. An inactive state in the detention center apparently contributed to the aggravation of the disease," said Javadov.
According to him, Aliyev was visited by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and he informed them of his condition.
On the lawyer's appeal to the relevant authorities there has been no answer.
At the same time, Javadov said that the complaint from Aliyev about the conditions of detention are already in the communication of the European Court of Human Rights.
* Intigam Aliyev was arrested on August 8, 2014 and on April 22 this year he was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison on charges of economic crimes. However, the guilt of the human rights defender has never been proved either by the investigation or the court, and the charges were politically motivated. Amnesty International recognized Aliyev "prisoner of conscience". -06D-
