Leader of "Kanal-13" arrested

The Nasimi District Court of Baku has chosen a preventive measure in relation to Aziz Orujev in the form of arrest for a period of 4 months. Turan was informed about this by his lawyer Elchin Sadygov. The journalist rejects the charges. The defense will appeal the arrest.

Leader of "Kanal-13" charged with criminal charges

Baku / 01.06.17 / Turan: After 30 days of administrative arrest, Aziz Orujov, the executive director of Internet TV "Kanal-13", is charged with criminal charges of illegal business and abuse of official powers. The lawyer Elchin Sadigov told Turan about this.

According to him, the investigation department for serious crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office charges Orujev with actions under Article 192.2.2 (illegal entrepreneurship with the extraction of a large income) and 308.2 (abuse of official powers that entailed grave consequences) of the Criminal Code.

Sadigov noted , the case against Orujov was singled out in a separate case from a general case against dozens of NGOs, started as early as in the spring of 2014.

The charges relate to the activities of "Kanal-13" and the NGO "Caucasus Media Research Center".

The Prosecutor's Office submitted to the Nasimi District Court a motion on the arrest of Orujov for 4 months. Orujov was arrested on May 2 on charges of not subordinating the police.-06D-
