The situation with social protection of the population, the growth of bad loans, a look at the state of higher education, an increase in the number of civil marriages and other topics are in the focus of today's media.
The Azerbaijan newspaper discusses the consistent social policy of the state, noting that social protection of the population is a priority for the policy of President Ilham Aliyev. Over the past 15 years, salaries increased by 7 times, pensions - 9 times, and the minimum wage - 6.5 times. The presidential decree of June 18 served to strengthen the social protection of the population of 1 million 300 thousand people. Since September 1, the minimum wage has been increased by 40 percent from 180 to 250 manat.
This step touched 600 thousand workers in the public sector and 350 thousand in the private sector.
The website Yeni Sabah.az in the article "A new banking crisis is expected in Azerbaijan" reports an increase in the volume of bad loans.
According to the expert Natig Jafarli, the amount of bad loans in Azerbaijan as of August 1 amounted to 1,487.4 million manat, which is 0.1 percent more than a month ago. That is, there is a trend towards an increase in bad loans. And the share in the loan portfolio of banks is 10.9%.
In world practice, the achievement of overdue loans of 3% is considered as a crisis and the state of banks through stress tests is overestimated.
Most loans are consumer loans and this is an indicator of the "disease" of the economy. According to the expert, economic activity in the country is associated only with state budget expenditures and consumer loans.
Budget funds from the sale of oil are allocated for repair and construction work. Investment expenditures from the budget are used for corruption and enrichment of officials, and at the same time serve as a source for the survival of the poor.
Further, banks associated with officials issue consumer loans at high interest rates for which they buy goods imported by the same officials.
The latter receive a double benefit - by issuing loans from their banks to ensure the sale of their own goods.
Citizens do not think about tomorrow, take loans and spend them. The government, thinking only about today, presents the current situation as economic growth.
The website Modern.az writes that today many people do not register marriages so that later there will be no property disputes in a divorce. The head of the NGO Clean World Mehriban Zeynalova explains the increase in the number of civil marriages by the desire of people to adopt a Western lifestyle.
But there are other reasons. There is also the factor of early marriages, when girls are married at a minor age, and therefore marriages are not officially registered.
Some prefer civil marriages so that there are no property claims during the divorce, and there is no obligation to pay child support.
