Minister Did Not Clarify Payment of Benefits to Families of Martyrs
Baku / 13.11.18 / Turan: Members of the families of martyrs today again gathered in front of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the population, demanding the payment of lump-sum benefits in connection with the death of their relatives in battles in defense of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
According to a member of one of the families, Sevinj Guluzadeh, representatives of the protesters were invited to the Ministry reception. "They want to talk to us indoors. We want to meet with the Minister himself. For before that, we have already met several times before the Milli Majlis and the Presidential Administration. However the problem was never resolved," Guluzadeh said.
She denied that members of the families of martyrs had already received compensation.
"If the Ministry claims that the money was paid, then let them submit the documents. On TV channels, there is unreasonable information that the money was paid," said Guluzadeh.
Later, the protesters were received by Labor Minister Sahil Babayev. The meeting was held in the assembly hall of the Ministry and lasted 40 minutes. However, according to the participants, it ended with nothing.
"We again did not find answers to our questions. We did not understand on what grounds the Ministry claims that the money was paid. For there are no documents confirming this, bank receipts, etc.," Guluzadeh said. According to her, the Minister interrupted the meeting, stating that he was going to Parliament to discuss the draft state budget.
Guluzadeh said that now the members of the families of martyrs will meet again in front of the Presidential Administration.
In the spring of this year, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the payment of lump-sum compensation to the families of people killed or missed in defense of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan in 1991-97 in the amount of 11 thousand manat.
Compensation began on October 9. However, many families were denied compensation on the pretext that they received funds in the past. Compensation is not given to the families of police officers. Citizens' complaints to state bodies are not considered. -06D-
