Mirvari Gahramanly became winner of "Human Rights and Business Award"
Baku/29.11.22/Turan: The "Human Rights and Business Award Foundation" has announced the Azerbaijani Organization for Protection of Rights of Oil Workers (AOPROW) headed by Mirvari Gahramanly, as the winner of the "Human Rights and Business Award" for 2022.
The award was announced today as a part of the annual United Nations Forum on Entrepreneurship and Human Rights.
The prize is awarded to "human rights defenders for outstanding achievements in the field of human rights protection from the negative impact of entrepreneurial activity".
Note that the AOPROW, founded in 1996 by a group of oilmen, deals with the impact of oil and gas companies on human rights in Azerbaijan. The organization defends the rights of oil and gas industry workers and seeks public monitoring of large oil and gas projects. Besides, it strives to ensure that oil and gas revenues are spent transparently and fairly for the benefit of the whole society calling on more investments in Azerbaijan's human capital (including education and healthcare).
Members of the Board of Directors of the Fund Christopher Avery, Regan Ralph and Valeria Scorza stated today the following: "We are very pleased to present the award for 2022 to AOPROW, a small but highly respected organization that does outstanding work to protect human rights in a country dominated by the oil industry."
The scope of the activities of the AOPROW includes the protection of the rights of oil workers, environmental protection and organization of public monitoring of projects in the energy sector.—0-
