Baku/19.05.21/Turan: In the final round of the Azerbaijan Premier League football club " Neftchi" beat "Karabakh" with a score of 1:0 and became the champion of the country.
Before the final tour "Karabakh" was one point ahead of "Neftchi", and the game between them was in fact the "golden match".
The decisive goal for " Neftchi" in the 89th minute was scored by Bulgarian legionnaire Ahmet Ahmetov.
In doing so, "Neftchi" interrupted the seven-year championship streak of the "Karabakh". "Neftchi" have won the championship for the ninth time and set a new record for the number of championships.
Prior to that, each of the clubs 8 times became champions of Azerbaijan and 6 times won the Cup of the country. "Karabakh became champion of Azerbaijan for the first time in 1993. Then, since 2014, the Agdam team has become the unchallenged leader of Azerbaijani football, winning the title for 7 times in a row.
"Neftchi" is the winner of Azerbaijan's first championship, held in 1992. The oilmen's other seven championships came in 1995, 1996, 2004, 2005, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
"Neftchi" is the first Azerbaijani club to win a trip to the group stage of the European Cup. In the 2012/2013 season, the club made it to the group stage of the European League.
And "Karabakh" is the first Azerbaijani club to play in the group stage of the Champions League. This happened in the 2017/2018 season. In addition, the club has won group-stage places in European cups more than any other Azerbaijani club. In addition to the group stage in the Champions League, "Karabakh" has reached the group stage of the European League five times (2015/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2018/2019, 2019/2020).
This season's bronze medallist was " Sumgayit", which was in fourth place before the final round and was two points behind "Zire", which was in third place. In the reporting round, " Sumgait" won against club "Sabail" with a score of 1:0, while "Zire" lost to club "Sabah" with a score of 1:2.
