NGOs File Lawsuits against Ministry of Justice
The Public Association of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights is realizing the project "Organization of the courts for the protection of unregistered NGOs", within the program frameworks of small grants from the U.S. Embassy.
According to the project expert, Yashar Agazade, the main goal is to prepare lawsuits in connection with unfounded refusals by the Ministry of Justice to register NGOs.
In six months, more than 100 NGOs appealed to the Public Union of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights for legal assistance, and 45 NGOs have applied repeatedly to the Justice Ministry.
Currently, 23 claims against the Ministry of Justice are in Baku Administrative Economic Court No. 1, seven cases are in the Baku Appeal Court, four cases are in the Supreme Court. Four more cases will be sent in the coming days to the European Court of Human Rights.
The problem of unregistered NGOs will be discussed in the near future at a roundtable.
The causes for the lawsuits are unjustified refusals by the Justice Ministry to register the NGOs. -05B06-
