Niyameddin Akhmedov ends hunger strike on the 21st day
Baku/13.10.21/Turan: The activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Niyameddin Ahmadov on the 21st day ended his hunger strike in prison after the persistent requests of his relatives and the leadership of the said opposition organization. Turan was informed about this by the lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova.
The PFPA believes that the action partially achieved its goal, as it drew attention to the Akhmedov case of the local and international democratic community.
According to the same source, a round-the-clock surveillance post is installed in front of Akhmedov's cell.
It should be recalled that Niyameddin Akhmedov is a bodyguard on a voluntary basis of the leader of the Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA) Ali Kerimli.
Note that he was detained on April 16, 2020 on charges of violating the quarantine regime and resisting the police, and arrested for 30 days.
Later on, he was charged with financing terrorism, pointing to receiving money from abroad as the reason.
While under arrest, Akhmedov was tortured in order to get evidence against the Party leader. However, he did not testify.
On October 8, the court sentenced him to 13 years of imprisonment.
Since September 22 when the prosecutor proposed to convict him, Akhmedov has been on a hunger strike.
Note that human rights activists recognized Akhmedov as a political prisoner.
The defense will appeal against the decision of the court of first instance. -02D-
