Oktay Gulaliyev Intends to Sue Prosecutor General's Office
Baku / 13.05.19 / Turan: The human rights activist Oktay Gulaliyev does not agree with the warning issued to him by the Prosecutor General's Office and intends to appeal this decision in court. About this he himself told the Turan News Agency.
On May 13, the activist was summoned to the Prosecutor General"s Office. According to the press service, the human rights defender was warned in connection with his posting on Facebook and told he could be prosecuted if he continued to disseminate information introducing public a misleading opinion and casting a shadow on activity of the law enforcement agencies to combat crime.
According to Gulaliyev, he was in the Prosecutor General"s Office for about three hours and he was received by Rustam Usubov, First Deputy Head of the department.
"He told me that in my publications on torture there are calls for civil disobedience.
I was told that if I continued to disseminate information about torture, then a criminal case will be initiated against me. Alas, instead of investigating acts of tortures, I was given a warning because I give publicity to these facts," Gulaliyev said.
He called the warning "absurd" and urged the Prosecutor General's Office
to investigate torture and punish officials who have committed such acts. - 21B06--
