Old Bath Destroyed in Former Soviet Street Area in Baku
Baku / 10.29.18 / Turan: Continuing demolition of dilapidated housing in the area of the former Soviet Street continues to present unexpected surprises.
In recent weeks, the demolition of houses located above the central mosque of the country, Taza Pir, has resumed.
So, during the demolition of a seemingly inconspicuous one-story building, an ancient bath room was unexpectedly discovered. Constructed presumably in the 19th century, a bath functioned several years ago. However, in connection with the plans for the reconstruction of the former Soviet Street, it ceased its activities.
Unfortunately, the city authorities and those responsible for preserving the old architecture did not have a better solution than to demolish the bath, and not to preserve it.
Even if this room were difficult to use as a public bath, then it would not be difficult to find another use of this beautiful building. -02B-
