One PFPA activist beaten, one more arrested
Baku / 23.02.19 / Turan: Tofig Mammadov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was arrested for 15 days. Another member of the party, Ayat Ismayilov, declared pressure on him by the police. Ismayilov told Turan, that on February 22, when leaving the Azadlig metro station, he was detained by four police officers and one dressed in civilian clothes. They told the oppositionist to go together with them, but he refused, because it was already too late. "Then they started beating me on the face with a baton, my lip was broken, a tooth was loose. They hit my eye, and my kidneys were injured. They did not tell the reason. Only after that I was released," Ismailov said. He posted on his facebook page his photo with bruises on his face.
On February 22, Tofig Mammadov was detained by officers of the 22nd division of the Nasimi district police department. On Saturday, the court arrested him for 15 days on charges of not submitting to the police, the PFPA said.
After the January 19 rally, more than 61 PFPA activists were detained. Of these, 41 were subjected to administrative arrests; another 21 fines were fined from 200 to 500 manat.
