PCTA appeals to the Azerbaijani public
Baku / 24.11.20 / Turan: During the glorious Patriotic War, which began on September 27, to ensure the territorial integrity of the country, each member of the Public Council of the Talysh of Azerbaijan (PCTA) conducted propaganda to increase the morale of our brave and valiant soldiers and officers. This is stated in the appeal of the PCTA to the representatives of the Azerbaijani public. The authors of the appeal emphasize that the Azerbaijani army, inflicting a crushing defeat on the enemy, victoriously ended the war on November 9.
“We have witnessed how the victory was won thanks to the monolithic unity and sincere fraternal relations of the citizens of Azerbaijan! We note with great pride that soldiers and officers of Talysh origin have shown great heroism, courage and valor on the battlefield. There were many martyrs and wounded among them, and we bow before the heroic deed,” the appeal says. The authors are in favor of building a strong, democratic state in Azerbaijan. “We, Talysh, want to live as worthy, proud, prosperous, happy citizens in our native, strong, democratic Azerbaijani state,” the appeal said.
At the same time, they point to problems in the teaching and development of the Talysh language, which is an important component of national self-expression. On the International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2020, the PCTA adopted a position document and sent an appeal to the highest authorities with proposals for the development of the Talysh language.
However, no reaction and response to their appeal followed. PCTA believes that now, against the background of the victorious end of the war, inspiration and spiritual uplift in society, issues related to caring for the Talysh language can be resolved. The authors, referring to members of the public, intellectuals and religious leaders, politicians, scientists, journalists and government officials, urge them to support their initiative.
The appeal was signed by the PCTA co-chairs Hilal Mammadov, Mehtibek Safarov and Atakhan Abilov. — 06D-

Speaking out on Saturday, Hasanli alleged that journalists working for the Baku-based "Meydan TV" were collectively detained, marking a grim milestone in the country's press freedom landscape.

For Elshan Hasanov, a 46-year-old man with severe hearing impairment (fourth-degree), what should have been a straightforward process to receive government-provided hearing aids has turned into a bureaucratic nightmare involving three healthcare agencies. As a result, Hasanov is forced to pay nearly 60 manats ($35) several times a year for what used to be a free service—a cost he says is untenable on his modest disability pension.
