Pediatrician: new types of viruses are spreading among children in recent days
Baku/19.08.23/Turan: A novel viral strain has been rapidly spreading within the younger population over the past few days. The ailment manifests as a severe fever accompanied by bouts of nausea and diarrhea.
In a noticeable upsurge, hospitals have witnessed a significant surge in patient visits due to these symptoms, with a number of affected children even requiring hospitalization.
Akbar Guliyev, a seasoned pediatrician and specialist at the Ministry of Health, provided insights to Turan, revealing that the recent surge in child cases can be attributed to the adenovirus. These viruses primarily affect the upper respiratory tract, inciting a fever that initially presents as dry, before transitioning into a productive cough with phlegm. Over a span of 5 to 6 days, the symptoms gradually wane.
Expert analysis underscores the communal nature of the virus, indicating that children can transmit it through respiratory droplets during close interpersonal interactions.
In certain instances, additional symptoms like conjunctivitis in the eyes and gastrointestinal discomfort have also been reported. Addressing this viral intrusion relies on managing the symptoms, as there is no specific antiviral remedy available at present.
