PFPA Activist Could Be Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison
The Baku Court of Grave Crimes completed the trial of a member of the Youth Committee of PFPA Elvin Abdullayev (Abdullazadeh) accused of drug trafficking.
Today the prosecutor offered to sentence Abdullayev to 7 years in prison, his lawyer Ali Mehdiyev told Turan.
The defense will insist on acquittal of Abdullayev, because there is really no evidence against the activist except the testimony of police officers themselves. Besides that, the investigation was carried out with gross violations of the law. The examination of Abdullayev’s clothing was held 8 hours after his apprehension, and all this time he was illegally kept in handcuffs.
The interrogation was conducted the next day.
Abdullayev believes that he is being persecuted for political reasons because of his opposition activities.
* On January 8, 2015 after passing an exam, E. Abdulllayev was arrested and allegedly seized heroin in the amount of 3 grams. Abdullayev was charged under Article 234.4.3 (drug trafficking on a large scale). However, the student said that the drugs were planted and he believes the charges are politically motivated.
The real reason for the persecution of the activist is his active promotion of democratic ideas among students and criticism of government policy. -06B-
