PFPA activist goes on hunger strike to protest his arrest
Baku/06.02.23/Turan: Member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Elnur Hasanov is on hunger strike in the Binagadi detention center for persons arrested under administrative law.
This was reported to Turan by lawyer Fahraddin Mehdiyev, who met with him on February 6.
“Elnur Hasanov has been on a hunger strike since January 31 in protest against the arrest. He believes that he did not commit the administrative offenses imputed to him and that he was arrested completely unreasonably. Until February 2, he was on a dry hunger strike,” the lawyer said.
According to him, on February 2, Gasanov was forced to take water and food.
After that, he drinks water, but refuses to eat.
“The hunger strike for a week has already affected Hasanov's condition. His face is pale and lethargic. Nevertheless, he intends to continue the hunger strike,” Mehdiyev said.
He also pointed to the violation of Hasanov's right to telephone calls.
After his arrest, he was never allowed to call his relatives, the lawyer said.
According to him, an appeal will be filed against the arrest.
Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were not available for comment.
Hasanov, due to a power outage due to a small debt in the house of his 85-year-old grandmother, came to the state-owned Azerishig company twice at the end of January, where he expressed his protest.
In addition, he wrote a critical post against the authorities on social networks. On January 31, the court sentenced him to 30 days of arrest under Art. 510 (petty hooliganism) and 535.1 (failure to obey the lawful demands of the police) of the Code of Administrative Offences.—06B-

In 2017, the Sumgayit City Court ruled to evict the Aliyev family—refugees from Gubadli (Akper, Sarvinaz, Ramil, and two other family members)—from an illegally occupied apartment in the 12th microdistrict, Building 7A, Apartment 35. The court ordered the property be returned to its rightful owner, Samaya Aliyeva. However, the Ministry of Justice intervened, citing a presidential decree from July 1, 2004, which approved a state program for improving the living and working conditions of refugees. Under this directive, refugees without alternative housing cannot be evicted until they are provided with a replacement residence by the Executive Authority.
