Press Council condemned blocking of Azerbaijani websites in Russia
Baku/28.03.22/Turan: The Azerbaijan Press Council condemns blocking of Azerbaijani websites in Russia due to their coverage of events in Ukraine.
"Azerbaijani media continue to be blocked by Roskomnadzor for an evident reason - the Russian leadership is dissatisfied with their objective assessment of the events around the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict," the document reads.
The news website oxu.az has become another "victim" of Roskomnadzor.
Earlier the Russian supervisory body blocked Russian-language websites haqqin.az and minval.az.
The Press Council regards this as the Russian leadership's disregard for pluralism of opinion and freedom of speech and expression.
Such an attitude of the Russian leadership towards Azerbaijani media is disrespectful to the centuries-old tradition of cooperation, the statement says.
The Azerbaijani media does not abuse the freedom of speech and expression; on the contrary, it covers military events through the prism of occupying the territory of a sovereign state.
"It so happens that due to the 30-year occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani territory by Armenia, the Azerbaijani media have imbibed the spirit of resistance to foreign invasion".
The Azerbaijan Press Council appealed to media community and progressive circles of the Russian Federation to give an objective assessment to Roskomnadzor's blocking of the mentioned information resources, the statement said.-06B-
