Press Review 06/04/2017

Assessment of the organizational skills of First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, litigation between banks and clients, suicides, and reasons for high prices on the market are the leading topics of today's press.

The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the organizational abilities of First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, her role in society, and the mission of serving the state. The article talks about her active participation in solving the problems of children from low-income families deprived of parental care, about her first steps as the First Vice-President.

Bizim Yol writes about legal disputes between banks and clients on payment of credit debts. As of January 1, 2017 in the country about two and a half million customers had credit accounts.

Today, 280,000 lawsuits have been registered in connection with debts to banks.

According to the economist Gubad Ibadoglu, 10% of the loan portfolio is overdue loans. Another expert Akram Hasanov believes that these cases do not have a judicial perspective. Both experts consider it necessary for the state to interfere in the issue.

Novoye Vremya has published an article entitled "The brand is growing, the manat is getting stronger, and the price bacchanalia continues." There was a paradoxical situation: neither the government members who supervise the economic bloc, nor the deputies responsible for the economic sphere in the parliament, nor experts can logically substantiate the processes in the economy. Prices do not grow because of what the market wants, but because of the speculative actions of monopolists who profit from this. Otherwise, it is difficult to explain the daily rise in prices with the growth of oil prices and the strengthening of the manat.

Echo has published an article titled "Expert on who in Azerbaijan is most likely to be suicidal". Since the beginning of the year, the number of suicides in Azerbaijan has increased. As a rule, the end of February and March is the most dangerous time for potential suicides. In this period there is an exacerbation at sensitive and nervous people, and this sometimes leads to an increase in the number of suicides," said the psychologist Azad Isazadeh. According to him, in Azerbaijan, it is necessary to develop manuals and recommendations for various groups of the population on how to recognize a potential suicidal victim. The expert noted that, unfortunately, the government does not take any measures to prevent suicide. There is no centralized approach to this problem. Therefore, there is still no statistical data on what causes people to suicide, or which group of citizens is at greatest risk.

Law enforcement authorities annually register about 500 suicides.  –0--
