Press Review - July 5, 2018

The development of silk-weaving in the country, the situation with lending, and an MP's view of the events in Ganja are the leading topics of today's press.

The newspaper Azerbaijan writes that forecasts about silkworm breeding justify themselves. In 2017, the silk production reached 18 tons, which is 90 times more than in 2015. The Sheki Silk Factory employs 600 people. In 2019, it is forecasted that production in the silkworming industry will reach 1,000 tons.

The website Modern.az comments on the incident in Ganja - the attempt on the head of the executive power of the city. According to MP Fazail Agamaly, an official should not bring his relations with citizens to such a critical point. The MP also expressed his attitude to the issue of bodyguards. He believes the head of the executive power should be among the people, he does not need a bodyguard, as well as escorting police cars. Agamaly once again emphasized the behavior of the heads of executive power with the population.

The Novoye Vremya newspaper writes that without loans, farmers cannot survive. Lending to the regions of Azerbaijan in the annual comparison decreased by AZN 106.1 million, or 4.8% and as of June 1 it amounted to AZN 2.111 billion, which can reduce a certain development in the non-oil sector, the author writes. Even in the peak of the oil and banking boom, lending to the regions left much to be desired. Banks, on the contrary, should increase lending to regions. According to the program of development of the regions of Azerbaijan, the financing of the village should increase. However, by all appearances, bankers are primarily concerned about short-term financial benefits. So they prefer to lend to big business. -06--
