Press Review November 20, 2017
Strengthening the country's economy in the last 14 years, the situation in the construction sector, and the attitude of the authorities towards the opposition are the leading topics of today's press.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the economic successes of the country for the last 14 years. During this period, 225 billion dollars was invested in the country, and another 42 billion dollars is a strategic currency reserve.
A trading flotilla of 270 ships, 7 industrial parks, 2 industrial quarters, and hundreds of factories were also created. The author also lists achievements in the agrarian sector.
The website www.azadliq.info published an article titled Unclosed Book, which analyzes a note addressed to the opposition, sounded at the celebration in honor of the 25th anniversary of the ruling party. Then it was stated that the fate of the opposition is predetermined, and "their book has long been closed." "But authoritarianism has a green light," the author writes, sneering. He continues his irony, noting that, in fact, "closed is the book of justice, education, freedom, and law."
The Yeni Musavat newspaper writes about the situation in the country"s construction sector, noting that the state continues to support this sector. Within the framework of pilot projects, emergency houses and unfit buildings are demolished. In Baku, 1,094 residential buildings will be demolished, and 49,614 people will improve their living conditions.
The article also gives an alternative view that the situation in the construction sector is not so rosy, although the state creates the appearance of activity, providing support in some areas. The author also concerns the construction of social houses and notes that their share in the general construction market is scanty.
