Prison Service hides information about the place of detention of Ilgar Mamedov

For more than 10 days there is no information about the leader of the movement REAL Ilgar Mamedov, who was sentenced to 7 years in connection with the events in Ismayilli.

On September 24 the Sheki Court of Appeal upheld the verdict against Mamedov and the next day he was taken from the prison in Sheki.

"We are very worried about Ilgar. About him we do not have any information, and lawyers do not have it either. This causes anguish to the family and Ilgar himself," Mamedov’s wife Vafa told Turan.

Last week, the wife went to the Shuvelan jail, believing that Ilgar may be there, but the food parcel was not accepted.

"I was told that they have no right to give any information. Only after the distribution of convicts serving their sentences at the places, they can be allowed meetings. The lawyer Khalid Bagirov was not given an appointment either," continued the spouse.

The appeals of the lawyers to the relevant offices remain unanswered. Our attempt to get comments from the Prison Service has also failed.

It should be noted that during the week no information was given about the other convict on the Ismayilli events, Deputy Chairman of Musavat, Tofig Yagublu. However, at the end of last week, his daughter Nigar Yagublu stated that his father was placed in Prison N 13.

Mamedov and Yagublu have been recognized by Amnesty International as "prisoners of conscience."

On May 20 the European Court of Human Rights found a violation of the rights of Mamedov at bringing him to trial on the Ismayilli events. -16B-
