Prosecutor's Office Continues to Hunt for Objectionable Lawyers
Baku / 17.03.20 / Turan: The investigator for particularly important cases of the Investigative Department for Grave Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office, Orkhan Babayev, sent a complaint to the Bar Association against the lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova.
According to lawyer Elchin Sadigov, the spouse of Sadigova, the investigator’s appeal is related to the protection of the person involved in the “Ganja case” Mushvig Gurbanov.
Gurbanov was put on the international wanted list and extradited from Russia in January this year
On February 20, the lawyer filed a motion for interrogation of Gurbanov with her participation. The investigator found that Sadigova questioned the activities of state-appointed lawyer Akif Babayev. According to the logic of the investigator, thereby, Sadigova violated the Regulation on the rules of conduct for lawyers.
In turn, Sadigova said that according to the Code of Criminal Procedure, the investigator does not have the right to send appeals to the Bar Association, obliging it to investigate the activities of the defender.
“There is nothing strange in the fact that the lawyer asks for the presence of the person whom he defends on the basis of the contract,” said Sadigova, expressing the hope that the Bar will not accept the case.
Z. Sadigova specializes in human rights affairs. She defended and continues to defend many political prisoners.
In recent years, a number of lawyers who have defended persons recognized as political prisoners, including Shahla Humbatova, Yalchin Imanov, Irada Javadova, Khalid Bagirov, Alaif Hasanov, Elchin Namazov and others, have been suspended from legal profession in Azerbaijan. –06D-----
