Prosecutors Office of Kyev insists on extradition of journalist to Azerbaijan
Baku / 31.01.18 / Turan: The court of appeal in Kiev continued the proceedings on the case of journalist Fikret Huseynli. Huseynli emigrated from Azerbaijan to the Netherlands and obtained the citizenship of this country. Huseynli was detained on October 14, 2017, when he left Kiev for Dusseldorf on the basis of Azerbaijan's request for Interpol. In Azerbaijan he is accused of fraud and illegal crossing of borders. On October 18, the Borispol City Court of Ukraine arrested him for 18 days to consider the issue of his extradition to Azerbaijan.
Huseynli rejected accusations, calling the criminal case against him a political order. On October 27, Lukyanovka Court of Kiev released Huseynli on bails of Verkhovna Rada deputy, Mykola Kniazhitsky, and public figure, Boris Zakharov. The court rejected the state prosecutor's request to extradite Huseynli to Azerbaijan.
The Kyev prosecutor's office filed an appeal against the release of Huseynli, demanding his arrest. On December 27, the period for considering the protest expired. On January 17, the court invited the prosecutor's office to consider withdrawing the claim in connection with the expiration of the trial and the loss of the relevance of the matter. However, today the prosecutor said that he insists on considering the protest. However, the court again invited the prosecutor's office to withdraw the protest, since the case has no prospects, Huseynli said. If the prosecutor's office does not withdraw the protest, then the hearings will continue on February 8. -06D--

Amid the bustling scenes of this year’s COP29 climate conference, a protest against whaling and deep-sea mining, organized by a group calling itself the FINS Initiative, drew significant attention from delegates and observers. However, questions have arisen about the legitimacy of the group, as an internet search yields little evidence of its existence beyond scattered mentions.
