Rahim Gaziyev arrested for 10 days (updated)
Baku / 26.12.17 / Turan: The detained former Defense Minister of Azerbaijan Rahim Gaziyev was sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest today. At the same time, Gaziyev was secretly without the awareness of his relatives and a lawyer.
According to the brother of the arrested Rahab Gaziyev, he was informed about the trial and appointment of the ex-minister 10 days of arrest only at the end of the working day from the 17th branch of the Narimanov District Police Department.
At the same time, the police did not specify for what offense Rahim Gaziyev was sentenced. Journalist and human rights activist Avaz Zeynalli believes that Rahim Gaziyev was convicted under Article 535.1 (not subordination to the lawful requirements of a police officer) of the Administrative Offenses Code.
Throughout the day, the department denied that Gaziyev is in this institution. About his place of detention no information was provided to lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova. Rahim Gaziyev was detained on Monday afternoon in the park in front of the Narimanov metro station.
Local human rights activists believe that the reason for the detention could be his interview with Internet TV Kanal-13, spread on the youtube service on December 21, in which he sharply criticized the Azerbaijani president.
Rahim Gaziyev was the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan in 1992-1993. Subsequently, he was arrested and sentenced to an estimated death penalty for serious crimes, which was replaced by life imprisonment, then to imprisonment for 15 years. In 2005, he was pardoned by President Ilham Aliyev. -03B06--
