Representatives of the Ombudsman met with political prisoners
Members of the National Preventive Group (NPG) on the prevention of torture under the Ombudsman on Wednesday visited Baku Prison Number 1 (Kurdakhani) and Prison N 2.
As the press service of the Ombudsman said, in jail NPG members met with the human rights activists Leyla Yunus, Intigam Aliyev, Rasul Jafarov and Anar Mammadli. During the meeting, they investigated the conditions of their detention and treatment of the detainees.
In addition, in Prison N 2, they had a meeting with the leader of the movement REAL Ilgar Mamedov and checked his status and conditions of detention.
Mamedov said that in Prison N 2 he had not been subjected to ill-treatment, according to the Ombudsman's office.
Further, the report notes that in order to investigate the issues raised by the said persons and the action under the law the Ombudsman sent an appeal to the Minister of Justice.
