Today in the morning the Lankaran Court of Grave Crimes continued the trial on the case of the former investigator of the Zardob District Prosecutor’s Office, Rufat Safarov, accused of taking bribes.
Safarov himself told Turan the defense asked the judge for a week to prepare for the final speech. However, the referee gave the time to prepare until 16:30 on Thursday.
Safarov said he does not have the technical capabilities in Lankaran to prepare for the speech. Therefore, the defense will not be able to work effectively.
"All that is happening is repression. They want to crush me under the wheels of the repressive machine, but they will not achieve their goal," Safarov said.
Yesterday the judge failed to question all witnesses and hastily completed the judicial investigation, and the prosecutor called to sentence Safarov to 10 years' imprisonment.
The criminal case against Safarov was launched after he announced resignation from the prosecutor’s office due to violations of the law by law enforcement agencies.
Earlier, the pro-government media started hounding Safarov's father, Eldar Sabiroglu, former MP and one of the founders of the ruling party New Azerbaijan, who publicly criticized the head of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev. -03B06-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
