SOCAR will try to protect its business reputation
Azerbaijan State Oil Company SOCAR conducted an investigation regarding the publication of media reports about the alleged purchase by a high-ranking official of this structure 16 houses for $20 million in the Turkish resort of Bodrum. According to the report of SOCAR, the Risk Management Committee SOCAR investigated the report about buying 16 villas by the his wife of Giymet Mehdiyev, the deputy chief of the Office of SOCAR. According to the conclusions made by the committee, SOCAR did not reveal violations of the Code of Conduct. The Committee notes that the information in the media has nothing to do with the activity.
The spread by some media of "unproven, unfounded information of this kind" and attempts to link it with the company's activities are considered as "risks that could have an impact on the image of SOCAR and realization of international projects."
The statement said that the presenting Giymet Mehdiyev as a state official, creating misconceptions about his service in state agencies, is a deliberate exaggeration of the purchase price of their property 300 times" are an attempt to tarnish the reputation of the person and his family in the eyes of the public."
Considering the decision of the Committee, SOCAR calls on the media not to violate the requirements of current legislation and journalistic ethics, and not to spread unverified and unsubstantiated information.
Attempts to link these false statements with SOCAR are regrettable, and damage the business image of the company, reads the press-release.
"This is forcing the company to protect the image of their business, to take the necessary legal action against the foreign and local media, spreading defamatory information."
The information about the purchase of 20 villas has been published on the site Haqqin.az.
Giymet Mehdiyev also previously denied these posts, saying that his wife bought a property worth one half of the villa, and the deal amounted to about $60,000.-06D—
