Supreme Court upholds conviction of PPFA activist
Baku/07.04.22/Turan: The Supreme Court rejected an appeal of the member of the Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA), European mixed martial arts champion Said Mammadzadeh, known as Said Bakouvi. This was announced by his lawyer Elchin Sadigov.
Now the defense will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. "We will raise a question of the violation of rights under Articles 10 (freedom of expression) and 18 (limits of the use of restrictions on rights) of the European Convention on Human Rights," the lawyer said.
Note that Mammadzadeh personally stated that he did not expect a different ruling. "Once again, the lack of the rule of law and justice was confirmed. The criminal case against me was fabricated and the Supreme Court did not change anything," the activist wrote on his Facebook page.
It should be reminded that Mamedzadeh was arrested in May 2020 on charges of hooliganism. In July of the same year, he was transferred to house arrest. However, in April 2021, Mammadzadeh was arrested again and sentenced to 3.5 years of imprisonment. In April 2021, a court of appeal replaced his real sentence with a suspended one and freed the activist.-16D06-
