The Baku court ruled to block a number of critical sites
Baku / 12.05.17 / Turan: On Friday the Sabail District Court satisfied the suit of the Electronic Security Center of the Ministry of Communications about blocking several critical Internet resources: azadliq.info (Azadliq newspaper), azadliq.org ("Azadlig Radio"), "azerbaycansaati .com ", meydan.tv, as well as video channels "Azərbaycan saatı" and Turan TV. Speaking on behalf of the defendants, lawyer Samad Rahimov pointed to the groundlessness of the decision of the Ministry of Communications on the blocking of websites from March 27 and the suit to the court with a proposal to approve this decision.
Rahimov pointed out that the decision of the Ministry of Communications contradicted the European Convention on Human Rights, the decision of the Strasbourg Court to block sites in Turkey, as well as the resolution of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in 2016, according to which the site cannot be blocked, and the restriction must concern only specific information.
Rahimov pointed out that in the publications that caused the claims of the Ministry of Communications, there is nothing that violates the "legitimate interests of society and the state". The materials did not contain any calls for religious radicalism or other unlawful actions. However, the representative of the Center for Electronic Security Bakhtiyar Mammadov insisted on the satisfaction of the claim.
Then the judge did not allow time for preparation for the speech of the lawyer of "Radio Azadlig" Adyl Ismaylov, and made a decision about blocking the sites. The editor of the website of the Azadlig newspaper Rovshan Hajibeyli said that the work of the resource will be continued. -16 / 03B-
