The court founds legitimate the ban on journalists leaving Azerbaijan
Baku /11.09.09/Turan: On September 11, the Nasimi court of Baku approved the ban on the departure of investigative journalist Shahvalad Ciobanoglu from the country. The ban was introduced in 2014.
Chobanoglu asked the court to recognize this prohibition as illegal, but at the trial the prosecutor's representative stated the legality of the ban, and explained this by continuing the criminal case of a large group of NGOs and Radio Azadlig. The defense claimed that the ban was illegal because it was not a defendant or a suspect. Chobanoglu intends to appeal.
In recent years, he was repeatedly interrogated by the Prosecutor's Office for the affairs of the newspaper Azadlyg, Radio Azadlig, journalist Afgan Mukhtarly. On August 14, the journalist tried to leave the country, but the border guards did not let him.
Since 2013, more than 10 journalists of the country have been banned leaving Azerbaijan. Nine journalists have already appealed to the European Court of Human Rights. In 2017 communication with the government of Azerbaijan has started on these issues. -06D-
