Baku / 11.09.09 / Turan: A lawyer Elchin Sadygov was removed from the defense of Yunis Safarov , who is accused of attempted assassination of the head of the Ganja Executive Power Elmar Veliyev, reads the statement of Leila Ismailova, Safarov's mother. According to her, Yunis was left without protection and subjected to pressure. She noted that from the moment of the incident on July 3 until the end of the month Safarov was without a lawyer. For 25 days he was kept in the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime (MDCOC)of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, tortured and forced to sign all the testimony.

On July 23, the family signed an agreement with lawyer Sadigov, who sent an order to the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office. However, the investigation did not allow him to proceed. The lawyer was pressured to abandon the case.

The application for violation of Safarov's rights to defense, his illegal transfer, prolonged detention in the MDCOC with a falsified signature of a lawyer, was withdrawn. The lawyer was able to meet with Safarov only on August 13, who reported that he had been beaten in the police, tortured in the MDCOC with an electric shock.

After that, the accused and his lawyer started pressure. So, on September 6, Safarov was handed the decision of First Deputy Prosecutor General Rustam Usubov to dismiss the lawyer. Usubov also complained to Sadigov in the Bar Association.

According to Safarov's mother, confidential meetings between the lawyer and the client were monitored and the content of their conversation seemed to be not pleasant to the leadership of the Prosecutor General's Office. The attempts to get a comment in the prosecutor's office were futile.

On July 3, a Russian citizen, a native of Ganja, Yunis Safarov wounded from a pistol the head of the city of Elmar Valiyev and his guard Gasym Ashbazov. A week later, on July 10, a group of 150-200 people organized a protest action in front of the city administration. During the clashes with the police, two high-ranking police officers were killed. On July 30, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov said 61 people were arrested in connection with the events in Ganja on charges of grave crimes. Another 13 are wanted.
