The Court of Appeal left REAL activists under arrest
Baku / 04.06.18 / Turan: The Baku Court of Appeal today rejected the complaints about the administrative arrest of the member of the Mejlis of the REAL Azer Gasimli and the activist of this organization Nariman Ismail.
They were detained after the march dedicated to the APR's 100th anniversary on May 28.
Gasimli was arrested for 30 days for not submitting to the police, and Ismail was arrested the next day for the same charge. On the same day Elmina Hamza was arrested for 25 days, and for 30 days by Arastun Bakhshaliyev.
Lawyer Elchin Sadigov called the decisions of the Court of Appeal in the activists' case not fair, illegal and unreasonable. According to him, the petitions of the defense were not satisfied.
The wife of Azer Gasimli said that her husband called the decisions of the court custom-made, because it was not based on testimony. He also stressed that they are persecuted for political activities and criticism of the authorities.
Gasimli also stated about poor conditions of detention, saying that they are kept "in the Gestapo". They are kept in close conditions, do not let out for air, re not allowed to meet with family members and telephone conversations, are not allowed to lie.-03B06--

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
