The court recognized the general as a murderer, but did not deprive him of military and honorary titles

Baku/10.27.21/Turan: On Wednesday, the Baku military court read out the verdict to the former commander of the corps of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Rovshan Akperov.

The court found him guilty under the Article 12.1, 120.2.2 (premeditated murder on the territory of a foreign state), and at the same time removing the charge under Art. 12.1, 221.3 (hooliganism committed on the territory of a foreign state with the use of weapons) of the Criminal Code, sentenced the general to 10 years in prison. The prosecutor suggested that Akperov be sentenced to 11 years in prison. He himself, rejecting the charges, asked to acquit him.

The court also ruled to collect 40,000 manats from Akperov in favor of the victim's legal successor, Faday Aliyev.

At the same time, the court did not begin to deprive Akperov of his military rank and honorary titles, including the national hero of Azerbaijan. The court referred to the lack of an appropriate submission.

According to the prosecution, as a result of a quarrel between Rovshan Akperov and businessman Elchin Aliyev on May 31, 2001, in front of the Sikora restaurant in Kiev, the latter was killed with a knife.

All these years, the law enforcement agencies "forgot" about this crime, despite numerous appeals and complaints from the relatives of the deceased. In the same years, having the title of National Hero, Rovshan Akperov rose to the position of commander of the corps of the Azerbaijani Army and the rank of lieutenant general.

The reason why Akperov fell out of favor with the authorities still remains a mystery, but it should be noted that he was removed from office on the eve of the Second Karabakh War. According to unofficial data, he was very indignant and demanded an explanation from the leadership. -06D-
