The court remains the theologian in custody
Baku Appeal Court dismissed the complaint of the theologian of Salyan region Javid Mammadov requesting to change the measure of prevention, and release from arrest, according to Mammadov’s relatives.
Consideration of the complaint was closed. The theologian is accused of involvement in the action of protest on October 5 in front of the Ministry of Education in support of the hijab, but he is convicted of unlawful possession of weapon.
Theologian denied the charge and says that arms and ammunition had been planted. He also stated that he had never been involved in politics, and does not have any relation to the on October 5. He even sends his daughter to school without a hijab, and he submitted a reference to court from school to confirm this.
Mammadov was detained on October 17 by police of Nasimi district.
Earlier, the Interior Ministry said that tight, ammunition, large sums of money in different currencies, as well as religious literature were confiscated from Mammadov’s apartments.
Mammadov is a native of Salyan region, and is considered an authoritative religious figure. He got education in Iran and Siria.—06B--
