Baku / 07.12.17 / Turan: Regional correspondent of the newspaper "Gundem Khabar" Mahbub Zulfugarli was released after the expiry of the prison sentence, reported human rights activist Ogtay Gyulaliyev.
The journalist was sentenced to five months in prison on July 6 by Imishli District Court Judge Ulvi Gambarov, who recognized Zulfugarly as guilty under Article 147.2 (libel). The private prosecutor against him was the director of the South regional territorial office of the Public legal entity "Institute for Standardization of Azerbaijan" Saleh Samedov. Zulfugarli published a number of articles on Samedov's business. Local human rights activists recognized Zulfugarli as a political prisoner. -05B-
