The prosecutor's office does not let a famous journalist to leave the country
Baku / 08.06.19 / Turan: The Prosecutor General"s Office refused to lift the ban on the well-known publicist Shahvalad Chobanoglu to leave the country.
Earlier, his lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova appealed to the Prosecutor General on the lifting of the ban.
Previously, such restrictions were lifted from a number of journalists. At the same time, the head of the Investigation Department for Serious Crimes of the Prosecutor General"s Office Eldar Ahmedov said that in the near future the ban would be lifted from all media representatives.
However, the response of the Prosecutor General"s Office says that the appeal of the lawyer will be attached to the criminal case and will be additionally answered.
Chobanoglu himself said that letters of similar content were received from the prosecutor"s office earlier, but no additional information was provided. He believes that the authorities do not intend to lift the ban.
These restrictions create serious problems for the journalist and his family members.
Chobanoglu is known for critical publications about the government. At various times he headed the popular Hurriyet and Gunaydin newspapers. He was also the founder of the "Other opinion" print edition.
Chobanoglu is the author of a number of investigative journalism and the winner of the prestigious Gerd Bucerius International Prize. -06D--

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
