The Supreme Court dismisses the appeal of the blogger R.Agaadin

Azerbaijan's Supreme Court today rejected an appeal  of the blogger Rashad Agaadin (Rashad Ramazanov) , sentenced to nine years' imprisonment on charges of drug trafficking. The complaint was filed prior to the decision of the meeting of the Baku Court of Appeal. According to  the blogger Azer Nagiyev, preliminary meeting of the Baku Court of Appeal on the claim  by  Agaadin took place on January 9.  However, the court's decision was not given  to protection  lawyers, and a week later, the Court of Appeal considered the case, and  upheld the trial court.  The lawyer regards it as a  violation of the right  of  blogger  to appeal the judgment. Therefore, the defense filed an appeal against the decision of the preliminary  hearing of the Baku Court of Appeal. However, on may 14 the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal.

Furthermore, the defense filed an appeal to the  decision  of he appellation court.

The date of examination of this complaint in the Supreme Court is still unknown. A lawyer Azer Naghiyev believes that all charges against Agaadin are based on allegations of police  who arrested him, and  there is not other evidence of his guilt.

Ramazanov was arrested  on May 9, 2013 at the metro station "20 January." According to police,  Ramazanov had with him  nine gram of heroin. However, the Ramazanov denied the accusation, saying that the drugs were planted on political grounds. This blogger  is known for sharp criticism of the Azerbaijani authorities in facebook.

In particular, he mocked the nomination of Ilham Aliyev’s candidacy  to the presidency for the third time , noting that he apparently wants to enter the Guinness Book of Records.

He calls the Azerbaijani authorities the  "diabolical Aliyev’s  regime." On November 13, 2013  the Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced a blogger to nine years in prison , finding him guilty under the Article 234.4.3 (illegal possession and sale of drugs in large amount) of the Criminal Code.  Amnesty International recognized Agaadin "prisoner of conscience ." - 16B06 –
