The threat of Fikrat Huseynli's extradition to Azerbaijan remains
Baku / 07.03.18 / Turan: Journalist Fikret Huseynli in Kiev still remains under threat of extradition to Azerbaijan, he himself told Turan. "The situation is serious. They want to take me to Azerbaijan by all means," Huseynli said. Being asked if the question whether the Embassy of the Netherlands helps him, Huseynli gave positive answer. However, according to him, the prosecutor's office of Ukraine insists on its own. "It is not clear what is a secret game around me in the prosecutor's office of Ukraine. On the question whether there are guarantees of his safety, whether the embassy provides his asylum, what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands is doing, he replied that at present the Ukrainian side ensures its security. "But I do not believe in law enforcement agencies of Ukraine. I myself try to maintain my safety. The Ukrainian side offered unofficial protection, but I refused. For already six months they have been torturing me," Huseynli said.
On February 5, Huseynli's rented apartmentwas attcaked, but he managed to escape. Huseynli was detained on October 14, 2017 when flying from Kiev to Dusseldorf on the basis of Azerbaijan's request through Interpol. He is accused of fraud and illegal crossing of borders. On October 18, 2017 Borispol City Court of Ukraine arrested him for 18 days to consider the issue of his extradition to Azerbaijan.
On October 27, Lukyanovka Court of Kiev released Huseynli on bail of Deputy Mykola Knyazhytskyi and the public figure Boris Zakharov. At the same time, the court rejected the state prosecutor's request to extradite Huseynli to Azerbaijan. The Kiev prosecutor's office filed an appeal against the release of Huseynli, demanding his arrest. The trial began on January 17, but was postponed four times. Finally, on February 13, the court refused extradition.-06D-
