The trial in the case of youth activist Elvin Abdullayev
A preparatory meeting in the case of the youth activist of the PPFA Elvin Abdullayev (Abdullazadeh) took place in the Baku Serious Crimes Court on May 14, chaired by Fikret Garibov
A lawyer Ali Mehdiyev said that Abdullazadeh was arrested on January 8 at around 11:00, but his clothes were examined at 19:30, and supposedly he found drugs.
"All this time he was illegally detained by the police", said the lawyer. He stated about the violations of the rights of Abdullayev, and requested the termination of criminal proceedings, and return the case for additional investigation. The judges rejected the petition, and appointed a hearing for 19 May.
Abdullayev asked a permission to speak, saying that he was beaten for three days in jail, and was not given food. However, the judge interrupted him, saying that it was necessary to tell about this before, and offered the accused to convey his words through a lawyer.
On May 7 Abdullayev was placed in solitary confinement. His mother Zulfiya Abdullayeva said that in jail for her son was systematically pressured, and made renounced his beliefs.
