The verdict against former investigator will be appealed
The verdict against Rufat Safarov, former investigator of Zardab region’s prosecutor's office will be appealed, Turan was told by the lawyer Behruz Bayramov. Safarov was sentenced on September 8 to nine years in prison on charges of taking bribes. "We will file a complaint on September 14 not waiting for the text of the judge's verdict. For it may be delayed, and we have available only 20 days," said the lawyer.
He called the court's decision "illegal". "It is absolutely illegal, unjustified sentence. Maybe, in the history of the justice there had not been a case that the verdict was read without the final word of the accused," said the lawyer. On receipt of the text of the verdict, he will send to the Court of Appeal addition to the complaint. The defender also said that because of Safarov suffered his companion , a former assistant prosecutor of Gubadli region Adil Mammadov.
He continued to maintain relations with Safarov after the dismissal of former investigator. They met several times and talked on the phone. In early January he was fired from the prosecutor's office under the pretext of "being late for work," just 15 minutes. Mammadov went to the US and received the right to live in California, using his correspondence and photos from Safarov. Until now, Mammadov has not disclosed this fact.
Safarov is the son of a former member of parliament and one of the founders of the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan" Eldar Sabiroglu, who last year publicly criticized the head of Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev. In December Safarov publicly criticized the authorities for violations of the law and the poor activity of law enforcement agencies, and announced his retirement from the prosecution. Last night, three earthquakes occurred along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border with magnitudes of 4.8, 3.0, and 3.8, according to the Republican Center for Seismological Service of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
