Three lawyers of Intigam Aliyev removed from his defense
Three out of four lawyers of the human rights defender Intigam Aliyev, Anar Gasymly, Alaif Hasanov and Fariz Namazly, have been excluded from his protection. This is due to the fact that lawyers are called as witnesses in the case.
Alaif Hasanov told Turan that he has nothing to do with this case and does not understand how he can be a witness.
"I have not yet received a decision and I do not know on what grounds I was removed. After receiving the decision, I will appeal against it in court," said Hasanov.
"The purpose of this is to remove us from the protection of Intigam Aliyev to weaken his defense," in turn, said Anar Gasymly.
Now Aliyev remains with one lawyer, Javad Javadov.
• Intigam Aliyev was arrested Aug. 8 on charges of illegal business activities, tax evasion and abuse of office.
Amnesty International recognized Aliyev as a "prisoner of conscience".
The real reason for his arrest is the active protection of the rights of citizens in the European Court of Human Rights. Thanks to Intigam Aliyev, citizens were able to win in Strasbourg more than 70 lawsuits against the government of Azerbaijan. -06B--
