Tofig Yagublu's Ninth Day of Hunger Strike
Baku / 10.09.20 / Turan: The daughter and wife of the opposition politician Tofig Yagublu were able to visit him on September 10 in Shuvalan detention center #3.
“Father's condition is not good. He walked with difficulty to the meeting place with a swaying gait. He was dizzy and walked holding onto the wall. He is very weak and has lost a lot of weight,” Yagublu's daughter Nigar Hazi told Turan.
She noted that in the morning they were not given a meeting, and they managed to get a meeting a few hours later. “My father said he had difficulty getting up. His bones ache and his heels burn. Therefore, he waited standing, so as not to sit down and not get up again, and so he waited for several hours.
When he was called for a meeting, he fainted, and they called a doctor. The doctors measured the blood pressure, which dropped to 90/60. He was not given medication because he is hungry and the medication could damage his stomach. The doctors waited for the father to come to his senses, then they let him go to the meeting,” Hazi said.
According to her, Yagublu does not want to be transferred to the medical unit, since his cellmates help him in the cell.
The politician is examined by doctors twice a day. However, none of the official structures inquired about his condition. Earlier, Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva and the leadership of the pre-trial detention center asked to stop the hunger strike. However, Yagublu is adamant.
Hazi quoted him as saying: “If I die, I will know that I died for my homeland. Now I am 60 years old, and when I get out, I will be 65 years old. Anyway, 2 months after I was released, I was arrested again on a libelous charge. Rather than living in prisons, it is better to either die now or be released. There is no turning back, my decision is firm, and my will is strong."
“Either Ilham Aliyev will release Tofig Yagublu, or the death of my father will signal the beginning of the death of this government,” Hazi said.
She also said that on September 9 at the British Embassy Yagublu’s lawyer and she met with representatives of the diplomatic missions of the United Kingdom and the EU.
They informed the diplomats about Yagublu's health condition and his hunger strike.
“We said that if there are no sanctions against the leadership of Azerbaijan, father will not be released,” Hazi said.
The British Embassy also published a message about the meeting of Hazi and the lawyer Yagublu with Western diplomats. –06D-
